Luisa Fairborne Named Publisher: Reader's Digest Selecciones

Posted on January 19, 2000

Luisa Fairborne will join Reader's Digest Special Interest Magazine Group as U.S. Publisher, Selecciones, the Spanish-language edition of Reader's Digest magazine distributed in the United States. The announcement was made by Bernadette Haley, Vice President and Group Publisher, Special Interest Magazines. In her role, Fairborne will be responsible for building the Selecciones franchise and revenue within the U.S. Hispanic market.

Selecciones has been published since the 1940's. It is available in Mexico, Spain, all of Latin America, and, since 1961, in the U.S. The magazine offers some of the same original reporting and reprinted articles as the flagship Reader's Digest, as well as unique material relevant to its Hispanic audience.

"Fairborne's appointment as U.S. Publisher marks the first time that the U.S. segment of Selecciones will be run as a separate business," says Haley. "The popularity of Selecciones is at an all-time high, so the timing was right to bring in a publisher whose expertise and experience will be key to bringing new readers and adding new advertisers to our pages."

Ms. Fairborne has more than 15 years of U.S. Hispanic magazine and advertising business experience. She joins Selecciones from People en Espanol where she was Regional Advertising Director. Previously, she held sales management and sales positions at Emerge, YSB, YM and Walking magazines.
