Isolde Motley Named Managing Editor of Life Magazine

Isolde Motley has been named Managing Editor of LIFE magazine, effective January 1, it was announced by Norman Pearlstine, Editor-in-Chief of Time Inc. Motley has been Development Editor of Time Inc. She succeeds Jay Lovinger who will become an Editor-at-Large of Time Inc.

Prior to her appointment as Development Editor in November 1995, Motley was the creator and first Editor of This Old House. From 1992 to 1994, she was Consulting Editor at Time Inc. Ventures. Previously, she was the founding Editor of Martha Stewart Living from its test and launch in 1990 to 1992. Her earlier experience includes serving as a senior editor at book publisher Clarkson N. Potter, a division of Random House, from 1987 to 1989 -- and she was Editor of Art & Antiques magazine from 1983 to 1986.

Prior to his eight years at LIFE, Lovinger spent three years at the Washington Post, where he started and edited a new Sunday magazine. His initial exposure to Time Inc. came in 1983, when he joined the staff of People as a senior editor. In 1980, he helped launch Inside Sports.
