Gregory Curtis, the editor of Texas Monthly for the last nineteen years, will become an editor-at-large at Time Inc., it was announced by Norman Pearlstine, editor-in-chief of Time Inc. As an editor-at-large, Curtis, who will be based in Austin, Texas, will divide his time between editing and writing for various Time Inc. magazines.

``Greg has had an exceptional career at Texas Monthly and was instrumental in that magazine gaining its well deserved and widespread reputation for producing extraordinary journalism,'' said Pearlstine. ``We're delighted to have him join us.''

Curtis, who was Texas Monthly's first staff writer at its launch in 1973, became editor in January 1981. During his tenure, Texas Monthly won numerous awards, including five National Magazine Awards. In January 2000, the Columbia Journalism Review named Curtis one of the ten best magazine editors in the country.

``I'm particularly excited about the opportunity to work at Time Inc. which has so many fine magazines and talented journalists,'' said Curtis.
