Future Tech Jobs Will Need Versatile Workers

Posted on August 1, 2006

Future technology jobs will require less raw programming talent according to an article in Computerworld. Straight programming jobs are likely to be outsourced. Tech jobs of the future that remain in the U.S. will require versatile workers that have a variety of skills including artistic talent, management skills and public speaking. The article says IT departments will be populated with "versatilists."

Here are some of the industry's Computerworld believes will be the hottest.

  1. Web services
  2. Wireless/mobile
  3. Business intelligence
  4. Service-oriented architecture
  5. Identity management
  6. Disaster recovery/ continuity planning
  7. Data management/ business analytics
  8. E-business
  9. RFID
  10. Antivirus protection
These fields are already employing people today so it wouldn't be a surprise if a new field or two emerges before 2010 especially with the rapid pace technology is developing. We aren't sure we agree that most straight programming jobs will be outsourced. Growing security risks might require that much coding be done in-house.
