Themestream, an online enthusiast resource, has announced that Daniel McCarthy has been appointed CEO, President and board member. Until recently, McCarthy was the CEO and President of Primedia's Enthusiast Group. Co-founder and acting CEO Bill Turpin will remain at Themestream as Chairman and will focus on the Themestream service as Vice President of Product Development. McCarthy will start at Themestream in mid-August.

``We're thrilled about having Dan McCarthy take the reins at Themestream,'' said Turpin. ``Themestream's mission is to build the Web's premier resource for passionate enthusiasts, and Dan understands that category better than anyone else. The enthusiast category is big business, with most consumers spending a significant amount of their disposable income on the personal pursuits they're most passionate about. Dan's remarkable background and experience demonstrate that he has the unique ability to leverage the interests of enthusiasts into a profitable business.''

``I'm extremely excited about joining such a progressive Internet company,'' McCarthy said. ``Themestream is a unique service that has used the Internet to build a compelling next generation experience for individuals who are highly committed to pursuing their interests in specific activities and topics. What sets Themestream apart is that it's an open community of ideas and information. In the coming months, we'll be making it even more interactive by adding features such as regional information and e-commerce with the goal of giving consumers anything and everything they want to know about their interests. I look forward to working with the talented team at Themestream to make this an essential service for enthusiasts.''

Under McCarthy's leadership at Primedia, the Enthusiast Group combined several special interest companies to create one integrated media company that included numberous enthusiast magazines, websites, live events, and radio and TV programming. Prior to joining Primedia, McCarthy was CEO of Cowles Business Media, a provider of information for marketing and media professionals. McCarthy holds a bachelor's degree from Columbia University.
