Christopher Schroeder Named CEO and Publisher of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive

Christopher M. Schroeder has been named chief executive officer and publisher of Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI), the new media and electronic publishing subsidiary of The Washington Post Company. He succeeds Marc Teren, who resigned to accept a senior position with another company. Schroeder, 35, joined WPNI as president and chief operating officer in October 1999.

"Chris is a gifted executive with a proven track record," said Alan Spoon, president of The Washington Post Company. "He has an exceptional ability to organize people, technology, and planning to accomplish specific goals. With Chris at the helm, WPNI will build on its history of innovation and market success."

Prior to joining WPNI, Schroeder was president and chief executive officer of The Washington Post Company's Legi-Slate, Inc., subsidiary, an online legislative and regulatory news and information service. Schroeder joined The Washington Post Company in 1995 as director of corporate strategy where he led efforts in strategic growth development projects and acquisitions in online, media, education, and related industries. He was elected to the additional role of treasurer by the Board of Directors in September 1996 with responsibility for financial and investment activities of the corporation.
