Blog Ranking Tools Favor Recent Inbound Links

Posted on October 30, 2005

The newer ranking tools like BlogPulse.com and PubSub.com track inbound links over the past thirty days. And Technorati recently altered its inbound link calculations to allow blogs that have been more popular in the last six months to rank higher.

Older blogs created before 2005 that are coasting by on old inbound links better get to work on posting and obtaining new inbound links or they may eventually find themselves absent from the blog ranking lists.

The new ranking systems that look at short-term popularity also offer a huge opportunity for the mainstream media to make headway in the blogpshere. Most mainstream media outlets just launched blogs for the first time this year. They can put their new blogs on BlogPulse.com and Technorati and eventually work their way into the various A-lists. This is already happening on Technorati 100 with sites like CNET Japan and FoxSports.com listed that were not there several months ago. And if you look at the Top Bloglines Feeds more and more of them are MSM feeds including the New York Times, CNET, Slate, Reuters, CNN, Fast Company, Rolling Stone, Variety, About.com and WSJ.com -- just to name a few.
