David Tanzer, president and chief executive officer of Primedia Consumer Magazines, and Janice Grossman, president, advertising and marketing, Primedia Consumer Magazines and president, American Baby and Bridal Group have announced that Amy Churgin, publisher of New York magazine, has been promoted to group publisher of New York, Chicago and Automobile Magazine. In this capacity she will report to Grossman. Alan Katz, associate publisher of New York, has been named New York magazine's publisher, reporting to Churgin.

"In Amy and Alan we have a very dynamic duo who have piloted New York through five years of change and growth," said Grossman. "The time is right for Amy to take on management of multiple titles while remaining close to New York and its terrific staff, and Alan is more than ready to assume the responsibilities of publisher."

Churgin became publisher of New York in 1994. She was promoted from Seventeen, where she had served as associate publisher since 1992. Previously, she held various sales positions at New York and was advertising director at both Elle and European Travel & Life. Alan Katz is also a New York and Primedia veteran, having joined New York in 1989 as a sales representative covering the restaurant category.

Also reporting to Churgin in her new role will be Chicago Publisher John Carroll and Automobile Publisher John Kennelly. Those magazines, together with New York, Seventeen, Soap Opera Digest, Soap Opera Weekly, and the various properties comprising the American Baby Group, Bridal Group and Youth Entertainment Group make up Primedia Consumer Magazines.
