American Greetings has signed an agreement with Viacom Consumer Products for licensing rights to the popular children's characters from The Busytown of Richard Scarry through the year 2000.

American Greetings plans to introduce a wide range of everyday and seasonal juvenile products, including greeting cards, gift wrap, party goods and stickers, all themed with Scarry's Busytown characters.

Scarry is one of the best-selling and most beloved children's authors of all time. His imaginative books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide and 11 of his top titles have made it to the Publisher's Weekly list of the "Best Selling Children's Books of All Time." During his 26-year career, the prolific Scarry published more than 300 titles, with nearly 100 still in print. Scarry died in 1994.
