Job Description: The Digital Strategy Section includes multimedia, multiplatform/mobile web and social media channels, and together provides overall leadership of UNICEF\'s global digital communication efforts, combining tried and tested tools such as web, video and photography with the rapidly expanding world of mobile and social media to drive all aspects of UNICEF's external communication work. Consultancy Assignment: the contract duration varies and a break in service is required after every 11 months of consecutive appointment. Fees are usually indicated and are determined by UN guidelines. Individuals retained for consultancy assignments receive no benefits. Travel is covered only if the Terms of Reference requires travel for completing the project.

Temporary Appointment: applicants recruited receive full salary but slightly reduced benefits. Applicants may apply to the modality of their choice. Purpose of the Position As part of the Digital Strategy Section, under the guidance of the Digital Transition Leader, the Digital Content Strategist is responsible for the timely development and production of digital content products to advance UNICEF's mandate and to best profile the story of children's rights and international development to achieve child rights. Emphasis is on the development of an updated content strategy for UNICEF's web properties, integrated with best- of-breed social media functionality.

Main Responsibilities
  • Define and implement a content strategy and approach for digital platforms at UNICEF. Develop content style guide and approaches for the new multiplatform web, social media and multimedia on UNICEF priority subjects.
  • As relevant for content strategy, coordinate the efforts of cross-functional project-based teams including consultants, web producers, multimedia editors, social media staff, managing workload, organizational expectations.
  • Conceptualize, research and advise on the latest trends in new technology industry standards, best practices and benchmarks based on expertise and available business intelligence, including new emerging digital platforms, to maximize strategic digital engagement in the content strategy.
  • Initiate and develop relationships within UNICEF and with outside partners to produce digital products and content approaches on priority themes and initiatives, including the contracting of vendors, producers or companies, as needed, and the preparation of appropriate formats and language versions as required.
  • Develop and maintain regular content review and training processes, working across the organization to ensure a consistent and coherent approach to digital content and engagement.
Minimum Qualification
  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, management, project management, information technology, communication, journalism, public relations, or other related discipline or equivalent working experience in progressively responsible professional work in communication/information fields.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in communication/information fields. Experienced and current in digital content and audience trends. Prior content strategy/management experience working with a global organization, especially working on projects of similar scale, involving multiple users and groups. Ability to shape editorial and system content planning from initial strategy and solutions, to implementation and post-launch optimization. Experience working with various project management methodologies. Experience working with social media and multimedia a plus.

  • General knowledge of:
    • Communication management. Knowledge of theories and practices in communication research planning and strategy.
    • Fundamentals for working in various media formats – print, audio, video, web etc.
    • Computer systems/applications and network, including internet navigation, office applications, and specifically, interactive digital media.
    • Knowledge of United Nations or other international organizations;
    • Global human rights issues, specifically relating to children and women.
