Thor: Ragnarok Wins Box Office With $121 Million Opening

Marvel helped turn the box office around this weekend. Thor: Ragnarok had a huge $121 million opening. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor who gets imprisoned on another planet. Other stars include Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Tessa Thompson and Jeff Goldblum. Ragnarok has a strong A CinemaScore. This is Marvel's 17th consecutive number one opening.A Bad Moms Christmas opened in second place. The bad moms in the holiday comedy are played by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn. Bad Moms made $17 million for its debut with a modest $4,711 per theater average. It has a B CinemaScore. The box office trailer off after the Bad Moms with no other film making over $10 million this weekend.
A Bad Moms Christmas was followed by Jigsaw, Tyler Perry's Boo 2: A Madea Halloween, Geostorm and Happy Death Day. You can find the box office chart for the weekend here.
Thor: Ragnarok has a good shot at repeating next weekend. It will have to defeat Murder on the Orient Express, Daddy's Home 2 and Thelma to keep the number one spot. Ragnarok won't be able to three-peat with Justice League arriving in theaters on November 17 but it is likely to dominate theaters until then.
