The Jungle Book Wins Weekend Box Office With $103 Million Opening

The Jungle Book was the big box office winner this weekend. It opened with $103 million. The film has a strong A CinemaScore and great reviews with a 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It stars young actor Neel Sethi as Mowgli and features the voices of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken and many others.

The Jungle Book has made nearly $300 million total worldwide. It was followed by Barbershop: The Next Cut, which also had a strong debut. The comedy sequel made $20.2 million for a $7,595 per theater average. It has an A- CinemaScore. Barbershop: The Next Cut stars Ice Cube, Cedric, Regina Hall, Common, Nicki Minaj and Anthony Anderson.

Barbershop was followed by The Boss, which made $10 million during its second weekend in theaters. It has made $40 million after two weekends. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finished fourth during its 4th weekend in theaters. It added $9 million to bring its total gross to $311 million. It was followed by Zootopia, which made another $8.2 million during its seventh weekend in theaters.

Zootopia was followed by Criminal, which opened in sixth and made $5.85 million. Criminal is a thriller starring Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds and Gary Oldman. It has a B- CinemaScore. Reynolds plays a CIA agent in the film and Costner plays a death-row inmate. The film includes a science fiction element with a procedure capable of transferring memories with brain surgery.

Criminal was followed by My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Miracles from Heaven, God's Not Dead 2 and Eye in the Sky. You can view the complete weekend box office chart here.

This coming weekend's opening films include The Hunstman: Winter's War, Elivs & Nixon and A Hologram for the King. The Hunstman sequel should have a strong enough opening to keep The Jungle Book from repeating.
