South African Comedian Trevor Noah to Host The Daily Show

South African comedian Trevor Noah will replace Jon Stewart as the new host of The Daily Show. Trevor is huge in South Africa and hosts his own talk show there. He also has a big international following and is currently on a world tour. He's been a correspondent for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart since 2014.

Trevor is only 31 years old. He is the child of a white, German Swiss father and a black South African mother. When he was a child apartheid was still in effect; his parents broke the law to be together and he was never allowed to hold his father's hand in public. Trevor became a comedian and eventually got his own late night talk show called Tonight with Trevor Noah.

Trevor speaks six languages and is now learning Spanish and German. His standup routine is very funny, but some of subject matter is pretty serious -- such as apartheid's effects on families. Being a polyglot, Trevor regularly does an array of accents when he voices different characters. He often discusses racial and cultural misunderstandings, such as the fact that in the U .S. he is often perceived as Hispanic. He says people speak Spanish to him all the time, which is why he's learning it.
