Robert De Niro plays an aging comic in the first trailer for The Comedian. Jackie is a comic icon whose glory days as an insult comic are behind him. He doesn't want to retire, but the gigs he's being offered are pretty bad. His temper lands him in legal trouble, and he's forced to perform community service.
He takes a job at a nursing home and the video goes viral. Suddenly, he's back in the limelight. He's getting great job offers and he's a guest on The Tonight Show and on Jimmy Kimmel. He's even met a women (Leslie Mann). But not everyone is happy about his resurgent career.
The film was directed by Taylor Hackford. Danny DeVito plays his brother who is married to Jackie's nemesis, played by Patti LuPone. Edie Falco, Veronica Ferres, Charles Grodin, Cloris Leachman and Lois Smith also co-star in the dramedy which may net De Niro an Oscar nod.
The film will be out in limited release on December 2 and opens wide on January 13, 2017. Take a look:
