  • Amazon has announced the biggest deal yet for its television division, Amazon Studios. Amazon has cut a deal with the Tolkien Estate to produce a television series based on J.R.R.   • Marvel helped turn the box office around this weekend. Thor: Ragnarok had a huge $121 million opening. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor who gets imprisoned on another planet.   • Tyler Perry has the top film in theaters this weekend. Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween made $21.7 million and averaged $9,066 per theater.   • Blade Runner 2049 was the top film in theaters this weekend. It opened with $31.5 million. The film stars Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas. It has an A- CinemaScore.   • J.J. Abrams will return to write and direct Star Wars Episode IX. Abrams directed The Force Awakens which brought the Star Wars franchise back to movie theaters in 2015 and delighted fans.   • The It movie is a monster hit. The film based on Stephen King's novel featuring Pennywise had a $117 million opening. This is the best opening weekend ever for a horror movie. The scary film also had the best opening day for a horror movie at $51 million. It is the second best opening for an R-rated movie after Deadpool.
