Netflix Raises U.S. Subscription Prices

Posted on January 15, 2019

Netflix is raising prices for U.S. subscribers for the first time since 2017. The price increase is significant with the monthly fee for the standard subscription service rising from $10.99 to $12.99 per month. This is an increase of 18%.

The least expensive plan will increase from $7.99 to 8.99. The premium plan will rise from $13.99 to $15.99. Netflix has about 58 million U.S. subscribers. CNN reports that new members will see the price increases immediately while existing members will see them over the next few months.

Netflix faces rising costs as it creates more and more of its own programming to compete with new and existing streaming rivals. New streaming service competition is expected from Disney and Apple.

Netflix says in a statement, "We change pricing from time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience."
