Jessica Chastain stars in the first trailer for The Zookeeper's Wife which is based on a true story. In 1939 Warsaw, Antonina Żabińska and her husband Jan Zabinski owned the highly regarded Warsaw Zoo. But when the Nazis invaded Poland, much of the zoo was destroyed. Antonina (Jessica Chastain) and her husband (Johan Heldenbergh) joined the Resistance and -- at great risk to their family -- saved the lives of 300 Jews who were imprisoned in the Warsaw Ghetto. They used the empty parts of the zoo to hide Jews escaping the Nazis. The book was based on Antonina's diary, which had never been published.

Their lives shattered and their country in thrall to a mad dictator, Jan and Antonina had to report to the Nazi's chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Brühl). They kept a few animals that survived the shelling and Heck was very suspicious of what was going on at the former zoo. Antonina enters into a high stakes cat and mouse game with the inquisitive Heck. Jessica Chastain has been nominated for an Academy Award twice so far, and it appears that this could be the role that finally lands her a golden statuette.

The film was directed by Niki Caro and also stars Michael McElhatton, Shira Haas and Iddo Goldberg. The Zookeeper's Wife is set to hit theaters on March 31, 2017. Take a look:
