Donald Trump Mocks Arnold Schwarzenegger for Low Celebrity Apprentice Ratings

Posted on January 6, 2017

Celebrity Apprentice started its new season with a two-hour premiere on Monday night with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the host of the show. The ratings were down 44% compared the 2015 season opener when Donald Trump was the host of the show. Trump turned to Twitter to mock Schwarzenegger for the show's weak start.

Donald Trump tweeted, "Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got 'swamped' (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT. So much for being a movie star-and that was season 1 compared to season 14. Now compare him to my season 1. But who cares, he supported Kasich & Hillary."

Trump apparently could not resist the petty dig at Schwarzenegger even though he is the President-elect and even though he remains an executive producer of The New Celebrity Apprentice. He also boasted about himself saying he was a "ratings machine" during his days as host of the show. Trump has previously stated he won't have anything to do with the reality TV series now that he will be serving as the U.S. president.

EW reports that The New Celebrity Apprentice on NBC received 4.9 million viewers and a 1.3 rating with adults aged 18 to 49. Arnold used "you're terminated" instead of "you're fired" as host of the new series. EW says the series was crushed by ABC's The Bachelor premiere.

Update: Schwarzenegger responded to Trump's attack on his Twitter account, @schwarzenegger. He wrote, "There's nothing more important than the people's work, @realDonaldTrump. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you'll work for ALL of the American people as aggressively as you worked for your ratings." He also shared an inspirational quote from Abraham Lincoln.
