Cars 3 Tops Box Office With $53 Million Opening
Posted on June 19, 2017
Cars 3 had a big enough opening to stay ahead of Wonder Woman and win the box office. It opened with $53.5 million. This is less than the $66 million Cars 2 made in 2011 but it is still impressive, especially since Cars 3 was up against Wonder Woman. It is enough to keep Disney's strong Cars franchise alive. Cars 3 also has an excellent A CinemaScore.Wonder Woman fell just 30% from the previous week. It added another $40.8 million to bring its total gross to $274 million after three weekends in theaters. It will need to nearly double that amount to catch Beauty and the Beast as the year's number one film. It should be able to catch Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 which is in second with $374 million. Wonder Woman is also accumulating a big foreign box office with nearly $300 million racked up overseas so far.
