Bohemian Rhapsody Tops Weekend Box Office with $50 Million Opening

Bohemian Rhapsody dominated the box office this weekend with a $50 million opening. The film about the band Queen stars Rami Malek as lead singer Freddie Mercury. It was directed by Bryan Singer.

Bohemian Rhapsody opened in 4,000 theaters and had a $12,500 per theater average. It has an A CinemaScore.

Bohemian Rhapsody was followed by The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, which had a modest opening but was not a hit. The Disney film stars Mackenzie Foy as Clara and Keira Knightley as Sugar Plum. It has a B+ CinemaScore.

Tyler Perry's Nobody's Fool opened in third. It made $14 million and had a slightly higher per theater average than The Nutcracker. The film is written and directed by Perry. It stars Tiffany Haddish, Tika Sumpter and Whoopia Goldberg. It has an A- CinemaScore.

Nobody's Fool was followed by A Star is Born, Halloween, Venom and Smallfoot. You can view the box office chart for the weekend here. Venom is nearly at the $200 million mark with its $198.7 million gross after 5 weekends in theaters.

Bohemian Rhapsody will face a variety of challenges this coming weekend in its bid to rule the box office for a second week. New opening films include The Grinch, The Girl in the Spider's Web, Overlord and The Front Runner.
