Alien: Covenant Tops Weekend Box Office

The Aliens movies continue to perform at the box office. The latest return of the Xenomorph, Alien: Covenant, made $36 million to open in first place. It just edged out Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, which has dominated theaters for the past two weeks. Alien: Covenant has a B Cinemascore.

Guardians added $35 million during its second weekend in theaters. It has quickly amassed over $301 million in theaters but still has a ways to go to catch this years top film, Beauty and the Beast, which has made nearly $500 million. Guardians was followed by Everything, Everything, which opened in third place and made $12 million in 2,801 theaters. The teen romance centers around a teenager who is allergic to everything and falls in love with the boy next door. It has an A- Cinemascore.

Everything was followed by Snatched and the new Wimpy Kid film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. The Long Haul opened with $7.2 million. This means it underperformed slightly but with kids soon out for summer it should hang on for a few weeks.

The Long Haul was followed by King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Fate of the Furious, The Boss Baby, Beauty and the Beast (2017) and How to be a Latin Lover. You can view the box office chart here.

Alien: Covenant will get bumped from number one this weekend when it goes up against Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Baywatch. Hackers are threatening to release the new Pirates film early but even if they do it is not likely to have a major impact on the box office.
