Val McDermid, Lee Child, Kathy Reichs, Jeffery Deaver Competing for Million For a Morgue Campaign

Posted on October 31, 2011

Top crime and mystery writers have joined together for the Million for a Morgue campaign. The campaign is to raise one million pounds to help build the Thiel Centre of Excellence at the University of Dundee. The facility will be a leading forensic center. Visitors to the website can vote for their favorite author by making a donation to the fund. The winning author will have his or her name on the new morgue, which is a pretty cool thing for a crime writer.

The idea for the campaign came out of the friendship between Professor Sue Black, the Director of the CAHID at the University of Dundee, and crime fiction author Val McDermid. Professor Black has helped Val many times by providing forensic details for her novels. The two have appeared at book festivals together discussing crime fiction. Val roped in her author friends, and the campaign was born.

The participating authors are: Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver, Jeff Lindsay, Val McDermid, Stuart MacBride, Tess Gerritsen, Kathy Reichs, Mark Billingham, Peter James, and Harlan Coben. As of this writing, Val is in the lead.
