Trial Date Set in Lawsuit Over Writing Royalties for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark

Posted on February 18, 2012

Director Julie Taymor's lawsuit against the producers of the Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is going to trial. Taymor is suing for royalties for co-writing the book for the show. Taymor was fired as director of the Broadway musical after a number of injuries and mishaps on the set caused a great deal of bad publicity. The show is actually doing quite well, despite all the initial problems.

Deadline reports that a judge in Manhattan has set a trial date over the royalties to happen on January 7, 2013. Taymor says the producers owe her around $3000 a week from April 2011 through the present day. Deadline says the case will most likely settle -- that way the show can go on a national tour. The Las Vegas stop is especially important as far as revenue goes, and the tour is on hold until lawsuits are settled. A settlement has already been reached between the producers and Taymor for royalties owed to her from her time as the director of the show. She won full royalties in the settlement.
