Scribner to Publish New Stephen King Story as Ebook

Posted on August 26, 2011

Scribner has announced plans to publish an ebook-only edition of Stephen King's new short story, Mile 81. The ebook will also contain an excerpt of King's next novel, 11/22/63. The ebook will cost $2.99. Scribner says the 80-page story tells the tale of "an insatiable car and a heroic kid whose worlds collide at an abandoned rest stop on the Maine Turnpike."

Stephen King was one of the very first authors to sell ebooks. He published a short story, "The Plant," using the honor system. He also published Riding the Bullet as a short story through Simon & Schuster Online. Both ebooks were published in 2000, years before the arrival of the Kindle and Nook.

Scribner has also teamed up with Klout who will offer a select number of Klout influencers the chance to download a free eBook of Mile 81. Klout is a service that measures influence on social media services, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN. The influencers given the book will be allowed to share a copy of the ebook with one other person.
