Sale of Borders Data to Barnes & Noble Approved After Email Opt-Out Added

Bloomberg reports that U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Martin Glenn in Manhattan has approved a transaction transferring Borders' customers data to its rival, Barnes and Noble. The transfer permission comes after the addition of new terms to enable Borders' customers to opt out of emails from the new owner of the email list. The judge had previously delayed the sale due to privacy concerns.

The new agreement requires Barnes & Noble to email all former Borders customers and let them know about the transfer of the customer list. Borders customers will be given up to 15 days to opt out of the list.

All other customer data (except for video titles) that is part of the sale will be transferred from Borders to Barnes & Noble.
