Robert Schenkken Wins Tony Award for Best Play for All the Way

The Tony Awards were presented last night. Hugh Jackman hosted the event. All The Way won the Tony Award for Best Play. The play was written by Robert Schenkken. This is Schenkkan's second Tony nomination. He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1994 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1992 for The Kentucky Cycle. He was also nominated for two Emmy Awards for his work on The Pacific in 2010. The play focuses on a specific moment of American history during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson. Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla) plays LBJ, and picked up the Tony for Best Actor.

The Tony Award for Best Musical went to A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder. The musical comedy is set in England in the Edwardian era. Robert L. Freedman picked up the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for creating the popular show. He has been nominated for an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Writers Guild Award for Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch won Best Revival of a Musical. Neil Patrick Harris, who stars in the show, picked up the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical went to the show's Lena Hall.
