Saddam Hussein's Novella to be Published in English

Posted on July 12, 2016

The Guardian reports that a novella written by former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein will be published in English for the first time by British publisher Hesperus.

Saddam wrote the novella in the time period just before the 2003 Iraq war. the novella will be published in December, 2016 to coincide with the 10th anniversary of his execution, whic is macabre, to say the least.

The novella was smuggled out of Iraq in 2005 by Raghad Saddam Hussein, Saddam's daughter. She was going to publish it in Jordan, but it was banned. In 2006 a Japanese version was published using the title Devil's Dance. It's not clear what the English title will be.

Hesperus says the book is "a mix between Game of Thrones and the UK House of Cards-style fiction." The publisher says the novella is packed with political intrigue, but said the rest of the plot "will remain a secret until Christmas." What a delightful stocking stuffer it will make.
