Space Encyclopedia (with Eyewitness Guide Encyclopedia of Space and the Universe CD Rom)
by Heather Cooper and Nigel Henbest Families who are looking for the ultimate reference guide to space should look no farther. This thorough and fascinating reference is divided into seven major sections: Observing the Universe, Exploring Space, Planet and Moons, The Stars, Galaxies and Beyond, Practical Stargazing, and a Reference Section with Astronomical Names, Astronomy Timeline, Biographies, a Glossary, and an Index. The "Observing the Universe" chapter explains about telescopes and how modern day astronomers are able to gather data about the universe. The "Exploring Space" section explains all about rockets and space travel. The next three sections use incredible photos and illustrations to demonstrate all we currently know about the planets in our solar system, stars, black holes, wormholes and all the other phenomena which make up the universe. Written in a clear, concise manner which never condescends, the text is especially well-done for a science reference book. Also included is the popular CD-ROM Space and the Universe which is part of the excellent Eyewitness series. An indispensable book for any family. Highly Recommended.

Touch and Feel Ponies This entry in the popular Touch and Feel series is all about ponies. Children can look at the adorable pictures of sweet ponies while touching and feeling the various parts of the animal. "Let's visit the ponies in the field. Stroke the foal's long, SMOOTH nose." A smooth, white fabric is shown where the foal's nose is in the photo, which the child can stroke while mommy explains the concept of "smooth." Children then pet the brown pony's soft coat, the thick warm cover, the hairy mane, and feel the silky ribbons on the red rosette of a winning pony, shown with a little girl riding English saddle. This one's sure to be a hit with preschoolers.
