Descendants Screenwriters Pose Like Angelina Jolie When Accepting Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar

Posted on February 27, 2012

One of the most spontaneous and funniest moments at the 84th Academy Awards last night came courtesy of two of the screenwriters for The Descendants. The award for Best Adapted Screenplay was presented by Angelina Jolie, who struck a dramatic pose and stuck out her leg when presenting the award. Posing on the red carpet was not enough for her.

The award for Best Adapted Screenplay went to Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash for The Descendants. Rash and Faxon decided to pose and stick out their legs - just like Angelina - when they arrived on the stage, which got a big laugh from the audience. Rash later said that the Academy only wanted one person to do the thank you speech when multiple winners were announced, joking that he decided to do something that would move the attention to him instead. Mission accomplished!

The writers told the Hollywood Reporter that they were not making fun of Angelina Jolie. Faxon said, "Angelina's supremely hot. There's no way to do anything but honor her."

Woody Allen won Best Original Screenplay for his terrific film, Midnight in Paris. Allen did not attend the Oscars, and Angelina accepted it on his behalf.
