Dark Destiny by Christine Feehan After enduring a torturous childhood, somehow Destiny survived. After her family was tortured and killed by a vampire, Destiny only escaped being turned into a vampire herself because of a mysterious mental link she has always had with a Carpathian who taught her to fight back and never to take a human life. Destiny is attached to the voice in her head who, over the years, has taught her to be a vampire hunter and who saved her life countless times. Nevertheless, she still despises herself for needing blood to survive. When her Carpathian protector, Nicolae Von Shrieder, finally tracks Destiny down he is overjoyed to have found her, but Destiny is deeply suspicious of Nicolae, not understanding the difference between the evil vampires and the vampire-hunting Carpathians. Nicolae has his work cut out for him. But he is a determined sort and is willing to do anything to make Destiny see that she is not evil and that they are truly meant to be together.

Dark Destiny is an outstanding entry in this unique romance series. The heroine, Destiny, has suffered unbelievable abuse that -- were it not for Nicolae's mental support -- would have caused her to go insane with grief. Nicolae has an appealing, dry sense of humor, as does his brother Virnikoff, who is a most interesting character. The inhabitants of the Seattle neighborhood that adopts the Carpathians are quite entertaining and add quite a bit to the tale. This is a powerful and moving story, with enough passion, laughter and magic to enthrall any romance fan.
