Wonder Woman Dusts The Mummy To Top Weekend Box Office

Posted on June 11, 2017

Wonder Woman easily won the box office for a second straight weekend. Tom Cruise and The Mummy were no match for Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman continued to dominate in theaters. Wonder Woman made $57 million falling just 44.6% from its opening debut. The DC Comics film has now made $205 million after just two weekends in theaters.

The Mummy made $32 million which will be a disappointment for Universal Pictures. The Mummy is the first film in its Dark Universe monster series. We hope the next films in the horror remakes series do better because we are looking forward to seeing them. The Mummy does have a $174 million global box office which helps overlook the weaker U.S. opening. It has a B- CinemaScore.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie came in third during its second weekend in theaters. It made $12.3 million to bring its gross to $44.5 million. It was followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

It Comes At Night was another wide release this weekend. The horror film starring Joel Edgerton did not do well. It averaged just $2,369 per theater with its $6 million opening. It has an awful D CinemaScore. Megan Leavey, the story of a young Marine corporal who gets attached to Rex, a military combat dog, also failed to find much of an audience. It opened in eight and made $3.7 million. The film is set in Iraq and stars Kate Mara.

You can view the complete chart for the weekend here on Box Office Mojo. Can Wonder Woman make it three in a row this coming weekend? It won't be easy with Cars 3 opening in theaters.
