The Fate of the Furious Tops Easter Weekend Box Office With $100 Million Opening

Posted on April 16, 2017

The Fate of the Furious easily won the Easter box office this weekend with a monster $100 million opening. This is the 8th entry in the popular action-thriller automotive Fast & Furious franchise. The film's stars include Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Charlize Theron, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris.

Furious has a solid A CinemaScore. It finished $85 million above the weekend's second place film, The Boss Baby. Boss Baby added $15.5 million during its third weekend in theaters to bring its total gross to $116 million. It was followed by Beauty and the Beast, which has now made over $450 million and is the top grossing film of 2017 to date. Furious probably won't be able to catch it.

Smurfs: The Lost Village came in fourth and made just $6.5 million during its second weekend in theaters. It was followed by Going in Style, Gifted, Get Out, Power Rangers, The Case for Christ and Kong: Skull Island. The Case for Christ has made $8.4 million after two weekend in theaters.

The films opening this upcoming weekend include Unforgettable, Born in China, The Promise and Free Fire. None of them look like they have the juice needed to keep Fate of the Furious from repeating next weekend. You can view the box office chart for Easter weekend here.
