Suicide Squad Wins Box Office for Second Straight Weekend

Suicide Squad won the box office again this weekend. The DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. film has now made $222 million after two weekends in theaters. This was a steep 67% drop from its record opening weekend but it still took in another $43.8 million.

Suicide Squad was followed by the animated comedy Sausage Party which had an impressive $33.6 million opening. The film has a B CinemaScore. Deadline says the dark R-rated animated comedy may have stolen some of its audience from Suicide Squad.

Pete's Dragon did not do as well as expected. It made $21.5 million for a $5,808 per theater average. The film is a remake of the 1977 movie. It has a A CinemaScore. It is not crystal clear where the film's moviegoers went this weekend as there was a spot for a children's movie. Some may have gone to see The Secret Life of Pets, which now has $335 million after six weeks in theaters.

Pete's Dragon was followed by Jason Bourne, Bad Moms, The Secret Life of Pets, Star Trek Beyond, Florence Foster Jenkins and Nine Lives. Finding Dory has now made $476 million but does not look like it will get to the $500 million mark. You can find the box office chart for the weekend here.

New arrivals this coming weekend include Kubo and the Two Strings, Ben-Hur and War Dogs. Suicide Squad is not likely to hold the top spot again.
