Spectre Wins Weekend Box Office With $73 Million Opening
Posted on November 9, 2015
James Bond drew huge crowds to theaters with its latest thriller, Spectre. The film made $73 million to easily win the weekend. This was the second biggest Bond opening of all time. Skyfall had the biggest opening in 2012 with $88 million. The high earnings show there is no reason to replace actor Daniel Craig as James Bond.
Spectre was followed by The Peanuts Movie which also had a big debut. It opened in second and made $45 million. It had an A CinemaScore. Deadline reports that 70% of the Peanuts audience was family which is not surprising.
Peanuts was followed by The Martian, which made another $9 million and is edging close the $200 million total gross mark. The Martian was followed by Goosebumps, Bridge of Spies, Hotel Transylvania 2, Burnt and The Last Witch Hunter. The movie Miss You Already, starring Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette, did not do well. It made $572,000 in 384 theaters for a low $1,500 per theater average.
You can view the box office chart for the weekend here. Next weekends openers include Bye the Sea, The 33 and Love the Coopers. It is possible Spectre and Peanuts could repeat at #1 and #2 next weekend.
