Sharlto Copley Stars in First Trailer for Hardcore

The first trailer for the sf thriller Hardcore is out and it certainly lives up to its name. It is the first action film completely shot in the first person point of view. The audience sees all the action from the point of view of the protagonist.

The film centers around Henry, who has been resurrected as a cyborg by his beautiful and brilliant scientist wife Estelle (Haley Bennett). When Estelle is kidnapped by a psychopath who possesses telekenetic powers, Henry and his friend Jimmy (Sharlto Copley) set out to find Estelle and take out the bad guys. This involves a great deal of violence and action. Danila Kozlovsky and Will Stewart co-star.

The film takes place during one day in Moscow, Russia. It was directed by Ilya Naishuller and was produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch). Naishuller shot the entire film using head-mounted cameras, so the audience essentially becomes Henry. The idea of a film seen entirely from one point of view certainly works in the trailer. Whether audiences can stay with it for the entire feature film isn't clear yet. But one thing is clear: no one's going to be bored during this movie. The trailer has so much going on that it's impossible to look away.

There isn't a U.S. distribution date yet, but the producers are hoping to lock that down at the Toronto International Film Festival where the film screened on September 12th. Take a look:
