Michael Fassbender Experiences the Life of an Assassin in Assassin's Creed Second Trailer

Posted on October 19, 2016

In the second trailer for Assassin's Creed, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) asks Alan Rikkin (Jeremy Irons), "You here to save my soul?" Rikkin notes that they have traced Lynch's bloodline back 500 years to an ancient assassin named Aguilar. The Assassins are a group fighting for good throughout time. They are pitted against the Knights Templar who believe mankind really does not need to be free.

Callum Lynch is pronounced dead to the world and he is put inside the Animus, a virtual reality device that allows Lynch to access the genetic memories of his ancestors. Now why these scientists want him to do that is another question entirely.

Marion Cotillard is Dr. Sophia Rikkin, whose explanations are never quite what they seem. She introduces Lynch to the joys of the Spanish Inquisition and the exploits of Aguiler, which he experiences as if they were his own. Alan Rikkin tells Lynch that he thinks he is destined for great things, but he has his own agenda.

Based on the popular videogames by Ubisoft, Assasin's Creed looks like a very interesting film -- a cut above the unusual videogame adaptations. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Ariane Labed, Michael Kenneth Williams, Callum Turner and Coco Konig. The film was directed by Justin Kurzel, who also directed Cotillard and Fassbender in Macbeth. Take a look:
