Margot Robbie and Jared Leto Bring the Crazy in Suicide Squad Trailer

Posted on January 29, 2016

The second Suicide Squad trailer is out and it's set to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" which actually works quite well for the film and its iconoclastic and violent characters. The government has decided it needs some very expendable soldiers to fight a new threat. They are the worst of the worst and they're being let out of a maximum security prison to save the world. And probably die.

We get a short scene where Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the head of the elite secret government agency A.R.G.U.S., explains her reasoning for letting so many convicted killers out on the street: "I want to assemble a task force of the most dangerous people on the planet." And she does. We get to see each of the newly formed unit: Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Slipknot (Adam Beach), and Katana (Karen Fukuhara) all agree to join the group. Hey, anything's better than being locked up in Belle Reve, right? Maybe not.

The group is called Task Force X and is lead by commander Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), who is less than thrilled with the assignment. Flagg tells his recruits, “This is the deal. You’re going somewhere very bad to do something that will get you killed." After that we see a lot of action: running, jumping, fire streams, bullets flying and the like. Although during the middle of a mission Harley Quinn stops to break a display window to steal a silver evening bag that has caught her eye. "What? We're bad guys, that's what we do!" she tells an irritated Commander Flagg.

It seems clear that Margot Robbie is going to steal every scene she is in -- no mean feat given who else is in the film. But when she's in a scene, that's where you're looking. As for Leto, his look is so repulsive it's kind of hard to look at him at all. Heath Ledger's Joker certainly looked unhinged, but you did want to look at him on the screen. He was quite compelling. It will be interesting to see what he does with the part -- he has too few lines to tell in the trailer.

Another character shows up for the fun: Jared Leto's Joker is right in the thick of things. He tells one unfortunate character, "I can't wait to show you my toys." That's great, because we can't wait to see them. Take a look:
