Boo! A Madea Halloween won the Halloween weekend box office. It made $16.7 million to bring its total gross to $52 million. Boo! made just enough to stay ahead of Inferno and win the box office for the second straight weekend.

This weekend's only wide release, Inferno, did not perform as well as expected. The film sees Tom Hanks return as Dan Brown's character Professor Robert Langdon. It opened with $15 million in 3,576 theaters for a $4,195 per theater average. Inferno has a B+ CinemaScore.

Inferno was followed by Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, which added $9.5 million in its second weekend in theaters. Reacher was followed by The Accountant, The Girl of the Train, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Keeping Up with the Joneses and Storks.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil had a strong opening in a limited release. It made $2.1 million for a $7,070 per theater average. The movie is an Indian romantic drama directed by Karan Johar and released by Fox Star Studios.
