Kirk, Spock and McCoy are in Trouble in New Star Trek Teaser Trailer

Posted on December 14, 2015

The first trailer for the next Star Trek movie, Star Trek: Beyond has landed and it's definitely got a different look and feel than the last film. This time Fast and Furious director Justin Lin has taken the conn and he's giving a shout out to the original reboot film directed by J.J. Abrams.

In that film the first glimpse we got of James T. Kirk was when he was a little boy in Iowa who had stolen his dad's vintage car to go for a joyride. You remember, the one where he nearly drove himself off a cliff while the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" blared from the car's entertainment system. Kirk survived, but the car did not.

Flash forward from 2009 to today and the Beastie Boys are with us again. The trailer doesn't give away much of the plot at all. They go to a planet, and things get crazy and the ship gets blown up and they don't know how they're going to escape with no ship and no crew. Sounds about right.

The film stars Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Checkov and Idris Elba as the unnamed villain. The trailer is full of action and emotion and has a lot more humor than the last film, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan. The scene where Bones and Spock are captured by three alien ships is hilarious. Karl Urban is such a great McCoy. Take a look:
