Jungle Book Easily Tops Keanu and Mother's Day to Win Third Straight Weekend Box Office

The Jungle Book easily won the box office again this weekend. It made another $42 million falling just 42% from the previous weekend. It has now made $250 million after just 3 weekends in theaters. It is still showing in over 4,000 theaters nationwide.

The Jungle Book was followed by The Huntsman: Winter's War which made just $9 million during its second weekend in theaters. It was followed by weak openings from Keanu and Mother's Day. The Keanu comedy made $9.3 million and has a B CinemaScore. Garry Marshall's Mother's Day performed even worse and made just $8.3 million in just over 3,000 theaters.

Mother's Day was followed by Barbershop: The Next Cut, which finished fifth and added $6 million during its third weekend in theaters. Zootopia was next and added another $5 million to bring its gross to $323 million after nine weeks in theaters.

Ratchet & Clank opened in 7th and made just $4.8 million in 2,891 theaters. It had the lowest per theater average of the three wide releases and made just $1,668 per theater. The animated film is based on a science fiction video game series. It couldn't even beat Zootopia which has already in theaters for 9 weekends. It has a B CinemaScore.

Ratchet & Clank was followed by The Boss, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Criminal and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Zootopia will likely pass Batman v Superman next week but neither film is likely to catch Deadpool, which is the current 2016 leader at $361 million. This will almost certainly be the last weekend for The Jungle Book at #1 as Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters this coming weekend. Other opening films include The Bigger Splash, Elstree 1976 and Pele: Birth of a Legend.
