Jean-Claude Van Damme and Gina Carano Star in First Kickboxer: Vengeance Trailer

Posted on July 16, 2016

Who could forget Jean Claude Van Damme in 1989's Kickboxer? The training sequences and the fight scenes were simply amazing. Now Van Damme is back and this time he's the trainer. Alain Moussi plays Kurt Sloane, a young fighter whose brother died in the ring at the infamous no holds barred Muay Thai championship which has no rules. His brother died at the hands of the champion Tong Po, played by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy). Now Kurt wants revenge for his brother's death and goes to Thailand to train.

Van Damme plays Master Durand, who is one tough trainer. He wears a hat and sunglasses during the entire trailer and we have to wonder if he's ever going to take them off during the film. Gina Carano plays Marcia, the woman who convinced Kurt's brother to go on his ill-advised trip to Thailand. We have no idea what else she gets to do in the film. We'd like to see her get some of the fighting action, but she seems to be stuck in the stands.

The film was directed by John Stockwell, who directed the surfing film Blue Crush, so he definitely knows how to shoot an exciting action sequence. We do hope they give a nod towards Van Damme's famous dance scene, which he recreated in a hilarious bit for Conan O'Brien. The film hits theaters on August 19, 2016. Take a look:
