Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt Are Gunslingers in Magnificent Seven Teaser Trailer

Posted on April 21, 2016

Sony released the first teaser trailer for The Magnificent Seven and it's pretty entertaining. The trailer opens with a shot of Denzel Washington on a horse, which is not something we've seen before. In fact, director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) had to convince Denzel that learning to ride a horse would be worth it. Not only does Denzel ride a horse, he also is a crack shot in the film.

Fuqua told USA Today that Denzel took his role very seriously, taking his Colt 45 Peacemaker everywhere he went. Fuqua said, "He had it with him all the time, even when he wasn't on the set. We'd have meetings and he'd be spinning and twirling his gun while we were talking. He used to walk around his house spinning guns, go to restaurants. Obviously, people knew it was for his character."

The Magnificent Seven is a remake of the classic western which starred Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen. That movie was a remake of the classic Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai. The film tells the tale of a motley crew of gunslingers who team up to save a small town from bad guys.

Denzel plays Sam Chisolm, who is asked to save the town by a young woman (Haley Bennett) who tells him, "I seek righteousness, but I'll take revenge." Chisolm agrees to help her and her town and heads off to recruit some help, including Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robichaux (Ethan Hawke), Billy Rocks (Buyng-hun Lee), Jack Horne (Vincent D'Onofrio). Peter Sarsgaard plays the villain, Bartholomew Bogue.
