Angry Birds Movie Wins Weekend Box Office

The Angry Birds Movie topped the box office this weekend. The film made $39 million giving Rovio hope that it may be able to build an entertainment franchise from its mobile game brand. The film has a B+ CinemaScore. The film has also made $112 million overseas.
Angry Birds was followed by Captain America: Civil War, which added $33 million during its third weekend in theaters. It has now made $347 million.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising had a strong opening with a $21.8 million box office and $6,439 per theater average. The sequel starring Zac Efron and Seth Rogen has a B CinemaScore. The Nice Guys starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe had a solid opening of $11.2 million. The film has a B- CinemaScore but really good reviews with a 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It might have performed better were it not for Neighbors 2.
The Nice Guys was followed by The Jungle Book, Money Monster, The Darkness, Zootopia, The Huntsman: Winter's War and Mother's Day. You can find the box office chart for the weekend here.
X-Men: Apocalypse and Alice Through the Looking Glass are two big films opening this coming weekend. Other new arrivals will include The Ones Below, Holy Hell and Chevalier.
