Steven Moffat Wins Writing Emmy for Sherlock: His Last Vow

Posted on August 26, 2014

Steven Moffat looked absolutely stunned when he won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Miniseries or Movie for Sherlock: His Last Vow.

The announcer read a bit of his bio as he walked to the stage noting that "he's a lifelong fan of Doctor Who and has written for the revised version." That's certainly true, but considering he's also the showrunner for the hit British sf series, the main writer and has creative control over the show's direction, it seemed like a bit of an understatement.

Moffat thanked PBS for telling him to prepare a speech in chase he won, then apologized to PBS for failing to prepare a speech after all. He thanked his wife, who is also his producer and Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss because "every word is down to him, as well." He kept it short and sweet signing off with, "Thanks you so much, this is utterly thrilling."

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for the third time for Sherlock and actually won this year. But he wasn't there to get the award. Moffat joked backstage that Benedict was too good to show up and that the press should give him grief about not being there. He also said that no one expected them to win anything for Sherlock as they are in their third season and as shows get older the awards don't come their way as much. He was especially excited to win an American award and hoped that it would bring more American viewers to the show.

Sherlock is a fantastic show and if you've missed it somehow, we highly recommend a nice binge watching session. Take a look:
