Former Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner Inks Deal for Book About Financial Crisis

Posted on March 15, 2013

Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner inked a book deal with Crown Publishers to write an inside look at America's response to the global financial crisis. Geither will detail how the administration made decisions when the crisis hit which threatened to topple the world's banking system at one point. Geither will chronicle how the White House, financial experts and world leaders navigated the harrowing time.

In a release, Crown says that Secretary Geithner will candidly answer the questions about why the government made the choices it did, which strategies worked and which did not. Geithner says the book will be a playbook for future administrations who face such a crisis.

Geither was CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2003 through 2009 and was U.S. Treasury Secretary from 2009 through early 2013. He also served as Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs under Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers.

The book, which doesn't have a title yet, will hit bookshelves in 2014. Molly Stern, Senior Vice President, Publisher, Crown Publishers, had this to say about the acquisition: "We are honored to publish Secretary Geithner's book, which will be essential reading for anyone who seeks a deeper understanding of the global financial crisis from which we are now emerging. His book will not only be the definitive account of this period in history, but will also offer invaluable lessons for the practice of crisis response."
