Writer, director and author Nora Ephron has died at the age of 71. Nora battled leukemia for a number of years, but according to
Deadline, she kept her illness a secret. The multiple
Oscar nominee was responsible for many hits, including
Silkwood,
Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail and
Julia and Julia. Nora's close friend,
Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen
told the
L.A. Times that she died at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she was being treated for acute myeloid leukemia and pneumonia.
She was a journalist, an essayist, a bestselling nonfiction author and a tireless supporter of women's rights. She was an amazing writer and director and always made us laugh and cry with her work. She will be greatly missed.
