Posted on January 10, 2014

Kensington Publishing Corp. announced that it has acquired Lyrical Press, an independent ebook publisher. Lyrical Press will operate as the digital first imprint of Kensignton, and will be run by its founder Renee Rocco who will be Lyrical's Managing Director.

Steven Zacharius, President and CEO of Kensington, had this to say about the acquisition: "The ability to have a digital imprint that works efficiently like a small independent press is what first attracted me to Lyrical. With Renee Rocco's cutting-edge expertise in running a small independent press and Kensington's team of talented professionals, we look forward to building new and existing authors while expanding the titles published under the Lyrical Press imprint."

Lyrical will be overseen by Kensington's Diredtor of Special Projects and Alternative Media, Adam Zacharius. Lyrical brings to the table 250 romance, YA, and genre fiction titles in its backlist which it developed under Ms. Rocco's leadership. Kensington is now actively acquiring new titles for the imprint. Kensington is also expanding the editorial, marketing and publicity departments in order to support the new digital imprint. Kensington says the imprint's books will be DRM-free. Books that are longer than 60,000 can also be purchased on a print on demand basis.
