This issue's focus is U.S. newspapers online. Almost all major U.S. Newspapers have made the move online. But success offline doesn't neccesarily ensure success online. Below are some that have flourished in their online adventure.

This is one of the sharpest looking online papers. In-depth coverage of news from the Northeast, Washington and U. S. government news, world news, national and local sports, and the Arts. A lot of internet-related content as well. Its articles often show up on Newslinks.

Chicago Tribune

The Tribune Internet newspaper sets the standard for online newspaper technology. The Tribune is at the forefront of technology with its state of the art newsroom combining television, print and Internet departments with the latest communications technology. Great columnists including Bob Greene and Gene Siskel, in-depth sports coverage, award-winning Food Section, Arts and Entertainment, and the invaluable city guide, Digital City Chicago. The 4:30 p.m. Business Update gives a sneak peek at the next day's business news. Excellent design. Very user-friendly.

C-J Online: Topeka Capital Journal

One of Morris Communications' newspapers, C-J Online is the online source for news in northeastern Kansas, and is the second largest newspaper in Kansas. From its award-winning photography to its government and regional issues coverage, C-J Online is innovative and interesting to read. Be sure to browse through the photo gallery of the award-winning staff photographers.

Herald Link - The Miami Herald

The online incarnation of The Miami Herald speaks with a strong local voice. A Spanish version of the paper, El Nuevo Herald is also available. The Herald has extensive coverage of Latin America as well as a prominent gay issues section with three regular columnists. The Cyber-Herald Section focuses on Web and technology news. Reflects the diverse community that is Miami.

A hip look and heavy, interesting content combine to make this a standout web newspaper covering Texas' biggest metropolis. Registration is required to access some areas, but it's free, quick and painless.

A service of The Idaho Press-Tribune. This online newspaper from Idaho offers potatoes and meat. You can learn about the online world with Idahopress.com's Net Heads, find a place to pray with Church Search or just quickly catch up on the news by reading the news bits of the day. A well-spaced design avoids the clutter that some online newspapers have.

Kansas City The Star

The Star's strengths are its comprehensive local coverage and its in-depth business news. Once a year The Star takes a look at the Kansas City area's top public companies. This year's expanded version features an in-depth look at the region's economy. On-line resources for this feature include searchable databases to compare companies' financial performance and access to real-time stock information.

Las Vegas Review-Journal

Nevada's largest newspaper is online with a wealth of information about Las Vegas. Columnists cover everything from local politics to racing and boxing. The focus is local and in-depth, and also functions as a visitors' guide, as well with information about getting around Las Vegas and showtimes and info about local entertainment.

New York Times Online

You have to register, but it's certainly worth it for access to this huge newspaper for free. The in-depth international, national, and government news is all available online along with the Cyber-Times Section, Sports and Arts. The legendary Book Section is on the Web now and so is the archive of over 50,000 book reviews dating back to 1980.

Sun Coast Media Group, Inc. owns its own Internet Service Provider, Sunline, as well as the Sun Herald newspapers. The result is an award-winning online newspaper with a bonus for non-profit groups, community organizations and government agencies -- Sunline will create and host their web pages for free.

The Salt Lake Tribune

The online newspaper for the Twin Cities from Cowles Media. Coverage is extensive in all areas, and especially in-depth in the business and legal areas. Travel, entertainment and regional news are all excellent.

Sun Sentinel - Digital Edition

South Florida's well-designed, high-content online newspapers has detail in every section. Includes a complete hurricane section, with a live radar update every half hour, preparation advice and updates about any storm threatining the coastline. Another feature is geared toward young adults: NGO -- Next Generation Online allows future community leaders to interact with other young newspaper readers. Digital City South Florida provides a complete dining and entertainment guide, and if you want Sports coverage, there's plenty here.

USA Today Online

In a look at U.S. newspapers online, it would be impossible to ignore USA Today Online. The news is national in scope. Recently USA Today has increased its investigative reporting features. A very content-dense publication, including a weather service, tech briefs including internet news and a complete web section including USA Today's Hot Site of The Day.

The Wall Street Journal Online

Subscription, but worth every penny. A must-read for daily, in-depth financial and business information, news and analysis. Non-subscribers can still access the job section, news in Spanish and Portugese, and the Small Business Report with articles reprinted from Inc. Magazine online. Two week free trial subscription. Subscriptions are $49/year or $29/year for print subscribers.
