J.K. Rowling Wins Hans Christian Andersen Literature Prize

J.K. Rowling has won the Hans Christian Andersen literature prize, a Danish literary award. The Guardian reports that J.K. Rowling accept the award at a ceremony in Odense, Denmark, the birthplace of Hans Christian Anderson. The Guardian says the prize is " given to a writer whose work can be compared to that of Andersen."

J.K. Rowling said, "Hans Christian Andersen is a writer I revere, because his work was of that rare order that seems to transcend authorship." She also said she was "humbled and deeply honored" to receive the award.

The Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award is a new award that was established in 2010. It is a separate award from the Hans Christian Andersen Award, which is awarded annually in recognition of a "lasting contribution to children's literature" in both writing and illustration.
