Literary Agent Attacked by Rejected Author, Saved by Her Jack Russell Terrier

Literary agent Pam van Hylckama Vlieg was attacked by a rejected author who is now in custody. Vlieg is a literary agent with Larsen Pomada and runs the website Bookalicio.us.

She told The Huffington Post that a man walked up to her car when she was stopped at an intersection while on the way to her daughter's school. The man took a baseball bat and smashed her side mirror. He then reached into the car and slammed her head into the steering wheel repeatedly. Vlieg's brave little Jack Russell terrier named Jackie bit the man and Vlieg was able to escape.

She gave the police access to her professional email and they found a rejected author who had been emailing her weekly with "unpleasant" messages about her rejection of his work. The police found the author at his house with dog bites on his arm. At that point he got arrested.

Vlieg told HuffPo that her husband works at Yahoo and their circle of friends are very open with their social media use. She regularly uses Foursquare to tell people where she is. Security experts say this is a very bad idea. There are stalkers and criminals who love to use social media to track victims.
